The short version
Villnöss Guide has no accounts, no ads, no third-party analytics, and no tracking. It does not build a profile of you or sell your data to anyone.
To see how the guide is used, Our own server keeps anonymous usage statistics: which parts of the App are used, together with a random ID the App creates when it is installed, and the start and destination of each directions request, which are stored without that ID. The statistics contain no name, account or IP address, are never shared, and are deleted automatically after 25 months. Requests for distances are not stored. Location is optional: you can browse everything without granting it.
This Privacy Policy describes how Villnöss Guide (the "App") handles information when you use it, and explains your privacy rights. By using the App, you agree to the practices described here.
Villnöss Guide is a read-only visitor guide to the Villnöss valley (Val di Funes) in South Tyrol, Italy. It shows points of interest, road and trail closures, distances, and turn-by-turn directions.
Interpretation and Definitions
Interpretation
The words whose initial letters are capitalized have meanings defined under the following conditions. The following definitions have the same meaning whether they appear in singular or in plural.
Definitions
For the purposes of this Privacy Policy:
Application (referred to as "the App", "We", "Us" or "Our") refers to Villnöss Guide, the software program provided for Android and iOS.
Country refers to: Italy.
Device means any device that can access the App, such as a mobile phone or a digital tablet.
Personal Data is any information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual.
Location Data means the geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) reported by your device.
Install ID means a random identifier the App generates on your Device the first time it runs, described under "Usage Statistics" below.
Service Provider means any natural or legal person who processes data on Our behalf — in this case, the hosting provider that runs Our server.
You means the individual accessing or using the App.
The Data We Handle
Location Data
With your permission, the App uses your device's precise location for two features:
Showing how far away each place is, and the estimated walking time from where you are.
Calculating turn-by-turn directions along the valley's roads and trails.
To compute distances and routes across the trail network, your coordinates are sent to Our server over an encrypted connection. They are never written to Our server logs.
Distances: your position is used only in memory, for the duration of that single request, and is not stored.
Directions: after the route is calculated, the request is kept in Our usage statistics: the exact start and destination, the calculated route and its length (or the reason no route was found), the time, how long the calculation took, and the platform, App version and content language. This record is stored without your Install ID and without your IP address, so it is not linked to your other requests, to your Device or to you.
Location is optional. If you decline the location permission, the App still works — you can browse all points of interest, read their details, and view the map. Only the "distance to you" and "directions from your position" features are unavailable. You can grant or revoke the permission at any time in your device's system settings.
Content You View
The information shown in the App (points of interest, categories, road and trail closures, photos) is downloaded from Our server as you use the App and cached on your device so it works offline. Like any request on the internet, each one reaches Our server together with your device's IP address. Our server log records the IP address, the time, the address requested and the result, to keep the service running and secure. These logs are deleted automatically after 30 days and are not used to track you or to build usage profiles.
Usage Statistics
For every request the App makes to Our server, We record: which feature it was for (for example the list of places, a photo, or directions), the time, whether it succeeded and how long it took, the platform (Android or iOS), the App version, the content language, and your Install ID. The statistics do not contain your IP address, your name, or any account.
The Install ID is a random number the App generates when it first runs. It is not derived from your Device, its hardware, its advertising ID or any account, and it is excluded from Device backups, so it does not move to a new phone. Deleting the App deletes it; a reinstalled App starts with a new one. We use it only to count how many Devices use the App on a given day or month. It is not stored with directions requests (see "Location Data" above).
Map (OpenStreetMap)
The map is built from OpenStreetMap data and ships inside the App. Viewing the map sends no requests to OpenStreetMap or to any other map provider.
On-Device Settings
Your preferences (theme, chosen language, and whether you have seen the welcome screen) are stored only on your device. They are never transmitted anywhere.
What We Do Not Collect
The App contains no advertising, no third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs, and no third-party tracking libraries. It does not use an advertising identifier (AD_ID on Android, IDFA on iOS) and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites. It has no login and does not create an account. It does not collect your name, email, contacts, photos, messages, or any other personal information.
How We Use Data
Location coordinates are used to answer the distance or routing request you made. Content requests are used to deliver the guide's content to your device.
The usage statistics are used only to understand and improve the guide: how many people use it, which App versions are still in use, where visitors ask for directions and which places they head to, and where routing fails so the trail data can be corrected. They are not used for advertising, not combined with other data, and not used to identify anyone.
Retention
Distance requests: not retained once the request has been answered.
Usage statistics, including directions requests: deleted automatically after 25 months.
Server logs (IP addresses): deleted automatically after 30 days.
On your Device: settings, cached content and the Install ID remain until you clear the App's data or uninstall the App.
Your Rights
Because the statistics are not linked to your name, account or IP address, We generally cannot tell which records relate to you, and therefore cannot look them up, hand them out or delete them individually. You can stop new records being linked to your current Install ID at any time by uninstalling the App. For any question about your data, or to exercise your rights under data protection law, contact Us at the address below. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in Italy the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.
Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for their own purposes. Data is processed and stored on Our own server, operated on Our behalf by Our hosting Service Provider within the European Union.
We may disclose information if required to do so by law, or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a legal obligation, protect Our rights or property, prevent wrongdoing, or protect the personal safety of users or the public.
Security
All network communication between the App and Our server uses encrypted connections (HTTPS). The statistics database is not reachable from the internet; the statistics can be viewed only by the App's administrators, through a password-protected admin interface. On-device data is protected by your device's own security measures (screen lock, encryption); we encourage you to keep your device secured.
Children's Privacy
The App is intended for a general adult audience and does not address anyone under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided Us with personal data, please contact Us.
Links to Other Services
A point of interest may include a link to an external website. If you open such a link, it is handled by your browser and the destination site's own privacy policy applies. We have no control over, and assume no responsibility for, the content or privacy practices of third-party sites.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "last updated" date at the top. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
